THE BEST AUSTRALIAN SKETCHES EVER...
(according to the people who happened to respond to my social media posts asking them to list their favourite sketches ever. In other words, not a credible list. But still a very good one)
I made a horrible mistake and told people on social media I wanted to write a post about the 10 Best Sketches in Australian history and could they tell me their favourites. The upside was I got to watch hours of great sketches, which brought back wonderful memories. The downside was that I then had to choose 10 from the sketches you suggested. So I didn’t. I chose 15.
I’m sorry if I didn’t choose the sketch you pitched. In most cases, I went with the popular vote. And when I didn’t, it was because the popular sketches you pitched didn’t fit in with our 2023 sensibilities. It’s hard to believe what we thought was fine in 1995. I’ll just leave that there.
Point of order: I’ve tried to spread the love. For example, I’m not putting in three sketches fromThe Late Show. You only get one sketch per show.
Have I covered my arse enough? I’m certain this whole exercise will backfire horribly. So, here are the greatest Aussie sketches ever, chosen by the people who happened to see my social media posts and then happened to have the energy to log their suggestions.
PS: I’ve left comments open, so if you want to suggest alternatives, I’d be happy to do another list in the future.
PPS: THESE ARE IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER.
THE BEST AUSTRALIAN SKETCHES EVER...
While all sketches are superb, The Front Fell Off, is the all time fave, and now sentimental fave. You can say "the front fell off" within various contexts to anyone - family, friends, colleagues, random strangers - and they immediately understand and laugh.
Hey Adam, i’m no expert but suspect you may have erred by putting too many gems into one offering. There are some quality skits there. Could you have spread them out over say 3 x 5 perhaps? Or are you expecting suggestions of more gems (such as maungle’s above) for future contributions?
Keep up the good work, in any case.
